Crime Story Class Exercise: Here comes the bride

Yesterday, a local woman began her life as a newly wed locked in a cell, at the police
station, according to the South Windsor police report.

Wearing her white gown, Adrienne Samen, was arrested and charged for a Breach of
Peace and Criminal Mischief in the 3rd for continuously yelling obscenities such as “c*ck
sucker” and “f*cking assh*le” at citizens and the police as well property damage,
according to the report. Her mother-in-law says Samen was intoxicated.

The report says, staff of Mill on the River reported Samen to the police for “throwing
food and plates around” in a rage, after staff asked her party to leave.

Officers encountered Samen on their way to the establishment, and arrested her shortly
after she stuck her middle finger up at them, crossed the street into oncoming traffic, and
disregarded their requests for her to stop, says the police report.

When she was handcuffed and placed in the back of their police cruiser she continued
shouting and kicking the backdoor’s window. According to the report, Officers Lopez,
Madore, and Dobler “tried to calm her down” but still, “she made a gesture as if to bite
[Officer Dobler’s] forearm.”

It took multiple attempts for Officer Lopez to read Samen her rights. “At one point she
took off her wedding ring and spit on it while it lay on her hand, then slammed if hard
onto the table” and later, even made a remark that implied her desire to kill her husband,
wrote Officer Lopez in the report.

At her booking, she originally signed her rights form as “stupid people arrested me
because,” and was ultimately placed in a cell until she agreed to cooperate and sign her
name. Upon doing so, she was allowed to two phone calls to get a ride home, since her
first call resulted in a heated over-the-phone argument with her husband, according to the
report.

The police report says after Samen’s surety bond of one thousand dollars was posted, she
was released and had her ring returned to her. Samen’s court date has been set for August 28.

Blog Post 4: Make up your mind about Hamilton!

According to the New York Times, there's been some debate on the future changes of U.S. currency, specifically regarding female representation and Hamilton fans, or "Hamiltonians."

The NYTimes says: "Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew announced 10 months ago that he would choose a woman for a new $10 bill in development." However, since then, people have grown more attached to the current face of the $10 bill, Alexander Hamilton; this happens to be due to Lin-Manuel Miranda's popular Broadway show Hamilton. This has caused some conflict and frustration directed at Hamilton fans, explains the NYTimes, and as a result, no one is entirely satisfied. Alexander Hamilton will remain on the $10 bill.

No need to fret though, women will get representation on U.S. currency, just not in Alexander Hamilton's space. Instead, women will be featured on the $20 bill and the back of the $10, perhaps even the $5, according to the NYTimes.
